Can an accountant manage my Xero account remotely?
Short answer
Yes. Invite the accountant as a user with Advisor or Standard permissions. They can reconcile, report and prepare tax-ready data without needing your bank passwords.
Detailed answer
Invite a named user
Use Xero's user-management tools to grant only the access needed for the engagement. An adviser may need broad accounting permissions, but payment approval, payroll and administrator rights should be considered separately. Keep your own owner access and review any connected apps that can read or change the ledger.
Agree responsibility for changes
Set expectations for reconciliations, journals, reporting and queries before work starts. Enable multi-factor authentication and retain an audit trail. When the engagement ends, remove the user and check app authorisations. You should not need to disclose online-banking passwords for ordinary bookkeeping work.
